Personal Narrative and Artistic Credo
He lives in Bacong, Negros Oriental and grows up with his family. He studied at the West City Elementary School, Special Education with the Deaf class. At his young age, he experienced to win with students normal contest arts two times. He left studying because his distress experienced not pass to grade 6 but 4. He studied back to grade 4 at the
West Elementary School after he was in Ohio, U.S.A. with his auntie and uncle for 8 months because a new teacher came in the West City Elementary School. But he didn’t graduate grade 6 because he jumped to 1st year high school to study at Dumaguete City High School with his Deaf and regular classmates.
He moved to Cebu that had an opening in the Deaf school, starting 2nd year school until he graduated with a honor student as valedictorian and best artist of the year. He had a 1st prize win for contest art with differently-abled person during 18th National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation Week in July 1997, and experienced
2nd prize contest art during Science Month celebration last October 1997. Then later, he has a first time failed to contest art, with students’ high school to attend during seminar in Baguio City, Philippines
Then he studied hard at the University of San Carlos to take up a degree of Bachelor of Fine Arts. This was difficult for him because there was no interpreter and no class offered for the deaf. The Deaf were mainstreams with hearing normal students. He experienced to join in contest art in the University of San Carlos, and applied to join the
Petron Students Competition Arts. But he hasn’t been successful and hardly challenge to contest with their students art.
He graduated on October 16, 2004. He was a group of students for the collegiate project of painting arts held at the exhibit center art, SM mall in Cebu City. The display was entitled "Ang Unang Hapak sa Pintal", held last March 2004.
He is currently a member of the Dumaguete Effata Association of the Deaf, Inc. he also coordinated with the celebration of the Deaf Awareness Week 2004 and exhibit his paintings in Spanish Heritage, Dumaguete City last November 8-13, 2004.
To the Deaf, in this sense, as an artist, he feels that his deafness has enhanced his powers of observation and he feels that being Deaf has influenced his art.
If he was asked to provide a personal statement for public view, he would say that art is to life what color is to the world.
